 A wonderful collection of the "Man in Black", Johnny Cash. May 31, 2010
This is a wonderful compliated collection of Johnny Cash songs. I enjoyed every minute, and song of this 2-disc collection of "The Essential Johnny Cash." It has alot of his great songs put onto here, and is a joy to all Johnny Cash fans, and to people who are just getting into Johnny Cash's music. He defintely put a different flare into the genre of country music, and broke down big barriers with his earlier and later works. Johnny Cash was such a gifted performer, and song-writer that he will always be an inspiration to every fan of music(not just country) for years to come!
You have this terrific album start out with Hey Porter, followed by his first sing "Cry,Cry,Cry" which is superbly followed by his wonderful, heartfelt song "I Walk the Line" and then you "Get Rhythm, when you get the Blues." This 2-disc collection will have you tapping your hands and feet, and dancing to wonderful music of Johnny Cash. Even though all the songs are terrific, here are a few of my most favorites from this 2-disc collection: I Walk the Line, Big River, All over Again, Five feet High and Rising, Orange Blossom Special,Ring of Fire, I still miss someone, Daddy Sang Bass,Highwaymen, Ghost Rider in the Sky, A Boy Named Sue, Man in Black and Song of the Patriot.

what can I say, a very nice compilation of one of America's beloved musicians and yet this is just the tip of the iceberg of some of Johnny Cash's greatest songs, later on in his life he did the American Series which is just utterly awesome (like a fine wine it seemed he just got better, his rendition of Reznor's Hurt, sends goosebumps down your back listening to that deep bass of a voice where Father Time has caught up and sounds rough and croaky, but yet so strangly sublime to hear because this is the man in black, and doing Tom Petty's I won't Back Down is great, and Redemption Song with Joe Strummer I found to be just beautiful, two Legends singing a great song), but for you people who are just getting into this Legend's music, this isn't a bad CD to start off with you get classic hits, get some tracks of him and June Carter Cash, Cash and Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings--- The Highway Men.

This CD is simply Great. Either you are a Johnny Cash fan or not. The recording is great, even the mono tracks sounding good. In making a memorial video for my Brother who passed away this year, I used the "Ghost Riders in the Sky" track. Brings tears to your eyes. Miss you Johnny!

Great collection of his music! It has almost all of the songs that were in the movie.
