5"Hard-Core" comeback  May 06, 2005 By Alan Shank
After a few lackluster efforts, spoiled, in my view, by producer Mark Wright, Mark Chesnutt changed labels and producers and has put out, again in my view, the album of the year, or several years. This is great, hard-core, honky-tonk country stuff, with lots of excellent pedal steel (Paul Franklin) and fiddle (Larry Franklin), mixed up front where they belong! The very first cut kicks off with a steel intro that simply screams "country." This album has quite a few shuffles, offset by a couple of ballads ("Would These Arms Be in Your Way) and the minor-key "You're a Hard Secret to Keep."

If you really like country, you'll love this album; if you don't love this album, you don't really like country.

5Back with a vengence  Nov 08, 2005 By Paul W. Dennis
After being missing for several years in 2004 Mark returned with an album which stripped off the veneer of modern country production and produced an album of authentic country music. This CD features real musicians playing real music, and his distinctive traditional vocals being front and center in the mix. If the black & white album cover looks eerily familiar to you, it should as Mark,a big Waylon Jennings fan, has modelled it after the front cover of Waylon's 1973 classic album HONKY TONK HEROES (if you look closely you can see that Mark is wearing a Waylon tee-shirt). Mostly new (and self-penned) material but a remake of the Vern Gosdin penned Keith Whitley hit "Would These Arms Be In Your Way" with harmonies by Lee Ann Womack is a standout. The title tune and "The Lord Loves A Drinkin' Man" are my favorites among thenew tunes. And yes, the album concludes with a short version of "Honky Tonk Heroes"

5The Best Album I have heard in a long long time  May 14, 2005 By Jeffrey S.
I have always been a Mark Chesnut and George Strait fan. Growing up in West Texas, I rate country albums and artist by how well you can Two-Step to the music. The 6th Track, "A Hard Secret To Keep" is one of the best dancin' tunes I have heard in a long time. If you liked old George Strait, buy this album. Every tune makes you want grab your wife and spin around the room. Thanks Mark for having the guts to make this album! Keep up the great work!

5THE REAL DEAL!  Oct 08, 2004 By D. McAllister "MRD"
It's interesting that Mark Chesnutt doesn't get the accolades that are heaped these days upon many other Country Western stars. But when it comes right down to it I'm not surprised and, truth be told, I'll bet Mark Chesnutt doesn't really mind. There's no hype, no bells and whistles and no nonsense! Chesnutt is just what he is: The Real Deal with little concern about getting crossover votes from people who aren't sure what Country Music is or if they're interested. With Chesnutt, what you get is old style country from a modern Country Star. And a voice as genuine, smooth and bright as Texas sunshine!

SAVIN' THE HONKY TONK is simply wonderful and includes a great selection of toe-tappers and ballads that Chesnutt fans have come to love! If you're not a Mark Chesnutt fan SAVIN' THE HONKY TONK may well be the album that changes your mind. Album of the year? It's got my vote!

5Thank God for honky tonk heros  Oct 02, 2004 By Michael Paul
This album is a breath of fresh country air in a fog of todays cross over pop that is destroying a great American music called country. Thanks to Honky tonk hero Mark Chesnutt and the outstanding compillation of songs on this latest album we fans of the non Nashville sound can breathe a sigh of releif.

Buy this album today !!! I've been a fan of Marks from day one and I highly recomend it.
