5This one is pure country  Dec 20, 1999 By Ken Schoonover, Jr.
The Pure Country soundtrack is the album that really made me a George Strait fan. I had liked George Strait before I saw him in the movie and bought the tape of the soundtrack album, but I have to say that after listening to the album, I got "hooked" on George. The ballad "I Cross My Heart" is my favorite song from this album, but "Heartland" and "Where The Sidewalk Ends", uptempo songs with some awesome lead guitar and fiddle parts, are also excellent songs. Furthermore, "When Did You Stop Loving Me" is a classic George Strait country song. These are just the highlights of an altogether excellent album. I think that in making the movie and the accompanying soundtrack album, George was telling us that there is still room for some "pure country" (quoting the movie's title) in the midst of all the "fluff" that I believe passes for country music nowadays. This one is definitely five stars, in my opinion.

5Give This One A Listen  Apr 24, 2002 By TheHighlander
My first introduction to the music on the album was through the movie, I enjoyed both the movie and the music. Of course I had heard of George Strait (who hasn't) but I was not really up to date on his music. I knew that he had a number of really big hits and the traditionalists liked him. That was what I considered the extent of my exposure to him.

After the movie, when I purchased this soundtrack I realized what an excellent singer he was. His style of music hit home with me. I enjoy every song on this album. Each one stands alone as a very good song and they fit into the overall feel of the album to make a very good album. This album (showing my age) will go down as a classic.

To take this a step further, the album interested me enough to buy more music by this artist and I thought, why not go big? I bought the box set and was stunned to hear so many songs that I knew and had sung over the years that were actually George Strait and I never knew it. This is a big statement but with the vast amount of material that George has released I feel that this is his best. Although it may be because the movie holds a sentimental piece of my heart, it is also surely because the music stands on its own. If you are a country fan, you owe it to yourself to purchase this album. If you are a music fan, give it a try, you won't be let down.

55 STARS AIN"T ENOUGH!  Dec 21, 2004 By Kiradej Kunawongse "Country Song Maniac"
This CD was my first GS CD that I bought. At the moment, I didn't know who he was. ( well, that was almost 10 years ago) Accidentally found it while browsing through a music shop at Central Departmentstore, I found myself being caught in the habit of 'impulse buying' again. And before I knew, I was reaching for my wallet...(Happenned everytime I found new faces!) But thank to that because GS has now become my most favorite country singer in the whole world and so does this album! All the songs in this CD were great especially love ballad 'I Cross My Heart' which has the sweetest melody I've ever heard! Believe me I'm not exaggerating! Then later on I had a chance to watch the movie. And when he sang this song for his girlfriend at his concert with 'no smoke, no light, just him and his guitar'. It brought me tears everytime.( well, leave the acting part because what he does the best is singing).Other up-beat songs were marvellous, too. If you're a country music lover (of course, otherwise you won't come in here in the first place!) and looking for a great country tunes, buy this! Or even you're here by accident without any preference in country music, buy this also! Who knows ! You may become his fan just like I am!
